Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali went to Bangkok (Thailand) to meet with Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to set up a basic plan to host a race in 2028 and beyond.

In a regular F1 season, 24 races take place all over the world every year. Shinawatra is planning to have a theme-based street-circuit grand prix in Bangkok.

However, the city of Buriram in Thailand has a FIA-accredited track already. But the government plans to host an event in Bangkok.

In the brick-and-mortar world, Thailand is one of the best tourist destinations. And the F1 GP can elevate the outlook of the coastal nation.

While Domenicali calls the plans “impressive, PM Shinawatra did describe her feelings too.

She said: “I believe that all Thai people will benefit from organising this event, whether it is large-scale infrastructure investment, job creation, new income generation, and importing new technologies and innovations.”

The 2025 F1 season started last week in Australia, where Lando Norris beat Max Verstappen to win the opening race.
