Two first-half goals led Manchester City to victory in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup opening game against Wydad AC at Lincoln Financial Field.
Phil Foden scored Man City’s opener in the 2nd minute of the game. Three minutes before the end of the first half (42’), Jeremy Doku scored the second goal of the game.
Both teams did not add any goals in the second half, with young Rico Lewis earning a red card in the 88th minute.
Scoring a goal early at the CWC might boost the confidence of Foden, who did not have a productive 2024-25 season.
After making City win the game, he said: “Happy with the performance and happy with the three points.”
“I stayed alive, and the ball fell to me. I put it away nicely, so I am happy.”
Man City will next face Al Ain in Group G. Vladimir Ivic’s side lost their first game of the event 5-0 against Juventus.
Both Man City and Juve now need to win their second game of the group stage for qualifying for the round of 16, where top two sides from each group opens the knockout stage doors.
