Visitors Manchester United are hours away from facing Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League last-8. Lyon holding midfiedler Nemanja Matic, who was a part of Man United from 2017 to 2022, feels that Andre Onana is one the worst goalkeepers in club’s history.

Matic said on Onana: “If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United’s history, you need to take care about what you are talking about.”

He added: “But if you are statistically one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United’s modern history, he needs to show that before he says. We will see.”

Onana came as a replcement of MU legend David De Gea, who is the former teammate of Matic, costing the club over £40 million in the summer of 2023.

In his first season at United, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper won the 2024 FA Cup. The Red Devils are 13th in the PL table, with just 38 points in 31 games.

Meanwhile, Lyon are holding fifth position in the French top-flight.

Onana has faced criticism since joining Man United in 2023 due to his inconsistecny. In 69 PL apps, he has kept only 18 clean sheets and conceded 99 goals. It even includes four errors leading to goal.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper expressed his views on X and said: “I would never be disrespectful to another club. We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent.”

“We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud. At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same.”

On the X post, he did include a picture of himself holding the FA Cup. It was an indirect responce to Matic for not winning silverware for the club.
