Chelsea outdid Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final at Stadion Miejski (Wednesday, 28 May). Abde Ezzalzouli’s first-half strike put Betis 1-0 ahead.
But in the second half, the Blues came with fire and scored four goals, thanks to Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho, and Moises Caicedo scored one goal each.
Blues’ Cole Palmar looked amazing in the final, creating several chances for his team. Chelsea have now become the first team to win all three major European competitions.
Maresca, who did secure a Champions Legaue spot for Chelsea via finishing fourth in the 2024-25 PL table, said: “Hopefully it can be a starting point to build a winner mentality.”
Being in the Champions Legaue next season might help the West London side to attract players from all over the world.
Even for Sancho, whose loan deal Chelsea did make permanent, scoring a goal in a title-winning match means a lot for the overall boost.
Leaving the UCL alone, with Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are locking horns for the glory, the other two European titles have been won by English clubs.
Palmar’s Chelsea will now aim to win the FIFA Club World Cup, starting mid-June, to take things forward.
They have already qualified for the next season’s Champions Legaue after finishing fourth in the 2024-25 PL season.
Cole told TNT Sport: “Cole Palmer is an absolute genius.”
“He took the game by the scruff of the neck and there are not many players in world football that can do what he does.”
