It was a great evening for Cole Palmer as he ended his three-month goalless period.
The England international blasted home a penalty in the 90+6 minute and helped Chelsea beat English champions Chelsea 3-1 on Sunday.
Virgil van Dijk’s 85th-minute goal was the only form Liverpool’s side in West London.
However, his side had received two goals before. Enzo Fernandez scored a goal in the third minute, and Jarell Quansah’s own goal in the second half gave Chelsea to have a 2-0 lead.
Palmer, who has scored 15 times in the PL this season, did not score a goal for Chelsea in almost last three months.
The 22-year-old winger was signed by Chelsea in the summer of 2023 from Manchester City. In his debut season at Chelsea, Palmer blasted 22 goals and became one of the best young players in the world.
As Chelsea are in the Champions League race, Palmer coming back in line to score goals might help them out massively.
“I just felt normal,” said Palmer.
“Obviously it happens, I went three months without scoring but it just gives me more fight and motivation to do more for myself and for the team.”
After 35 matches, Chelsea are fifth in the PL table with 63 points. Even the fourth-placed Newcastle United also have 35 points in 35 games.
They stand equally with a 21-goal difference. Hence, the remaining three games this season might set the tone. And Palmar hitting a goal against the best team in England and making an impact might work well for them.
Next Sunday, Chelsea will face the Magpies at St James’ Park. Winning the game against Newcastle might work wonders for the Blues to make a top-four finish and open the 2025-26 season UCL doors.
After Newcastle, Chelsea will face Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. As Forest are also in the UCL race, beating them might do wonders for the two-time European champions.
