Pakistan fast-bowling legend Shoaib Akhtar (former bowler) expressed his view of the no-show of a major board member at the 2025 Champions Trophy final.

India beat New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final by four wickets in Dubai on Sunday.

Akhtar felt that despite the final taking place in Dubai due to India playing the final, as hosts, Pakistan should have sent Pakistan Cricket Board main leaders to the trophy event.

Akhtar said on social media: “India has won the ICC Champions Trophy. There was one odd thing: no one from the Pakistan Cricket Board during the presentation ceremony. Pakistan is the host of the Champions Trophy, but there was no representative of Pakistan who was standing. No one was there to present the trophy. It is beyond me. Think about it. It was the world stage, you should have been there, but sadly, I could not see any Pakistan Cricket Board member there. We hosted the tournament, yet there was nobody there. Feeling very down to see that.”

Due to geo-political reasons, India refused to play in Pakistan for the mega ICC event. Hence, all of their matches did take place in Dubai.

Akhtar felt that the PCB should have taken the final as the hosts took, not seeing that Pakistan got out of the group stage.

India remained unbeaten at the 2025 Champions Trophy, winning all five matches to win the title for the first time under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
