Lionel Messi scored a wonderful free-kick in the second half, leading Inter Miami to beat FC Porto 2-1 in a Group A match of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Samu Aghehowa’s goal early in the first half (8’, penalty) helped Porto take a 1-0 lead. But Inter Miami came back stronger in the second half, with Telasco Segovia and Messi scoring one goal each.
Messi’s free-kick rolled back the fans in his days at Barcelona.
Former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given said: “If you get a chance to go see this guy live – you go and see him (Lionel Messi). This is what he does.”
Messi’s Inter have won their opening two games and reached the last-16, as Palmeiras have won their first two matches in Group A too. As a result, both teams have qualified for the last-16.
Inter Miami and Palmeiras will lock horns next, with the winner topping Group A.
