Ange Postecoglou has turned a poor season into gold after winning the 2025 Europa Legaue. Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal in the 42nd minute helped Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao.
It is their third Europa Legaue/UEFA Cup victory, having won their previous titles in the 1971-72 and 1983-84 seasons.
For the first time since the 2007-08 League Cup victory, Spurs have won silverware. Postecoglou, who joined the eight-time FA Cup winners in 2023, predicted that he would always win a title in his second season.
And the prediction has come true. Being 17th in the Premier League, with 21 defeats in 37 games, put tremendous pressure on Postecoglou.
However, Spurs winning the Europa League has changed everything.
Next season, Spurs will face either Inter Milan or Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. It is another chance for them to win silverware.
There were talks in the media that Postecoglou might be sacked despite winning the Europa Legaue.
After winning the prestigious trophy, Postecoglou said: “I’ve had such a laser focus on winning this, whatever happens, happens.”
“I’m the manager of the football club, that decision is not in my hands. All I know is having this [medal] around my neck means we have won a trophy. I don’t feel I have completed the job.”
The former Celtic boss has done something that has made him a legend in North London. And it has made them qualify for the 2025-26 Champions Legaue season.
