Nasser Hussain is not impressed with the early signs of Shubman Gill as the Test captain compared to ex-skippers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Gill led India in the first Test of the five-match England series (20-24 June). England chased a 371-run target to win the first Test by five wickets.
Other than the lower-batting order, India did well overall in the opening match of the series. One aspect of winning the Test is the captain leading in the best possible way. Nasser sees Gill not being the same as Virat and Rohit.
He said on Sky Sports: “I saw someone finding his way. He (Gill) didn’t quite have that on-field aura of Rohit and ( Kohli). I thought he followed the ball a lot and was reactive rather than proactive.”
Now the second Test has become crucial for Gill to keep the spirit of the series alive and try to win the trophy away from home.
