At the age of 42, former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina retires from professional football. Como became the last club of the 2010 World Cup winner.
Making his professional debut for Barcelona in 1999, Reina played for several top clubs. From 2005 to 2017, he made 36 appearances for Spain. Not to forget that he was a part of the golden generation of Spain, where Iker Casillas was leading the goalkeeping position.
From 2005 to 2014, he represented Liverpool. He made 285 PL appearances for the Reds in the Premier Legaue.
In 2008 and 2012, Reina helped Spain win back-to-back Euros. From 2015 to 2018, he led the goalkeeping position of Napoli in 111 Serie A matches.
As a backup goalkeeper to Manuel Neuer, he won the Bundesliga title in the 2014-15 season.
Reina said: “I decided to quit last January. I spoke with my wife, and we decided together.”
He is being regarded as one of the top Premier League goalkeepers. He played his last game last week against Inter Milan in Serie A.
