UEFA Unhappy with Alleged Political Approach of FIFA

UEFA, the most influential continental body in world football, has shown their concerns over the FIFA president Gianni Infantino being late for attending (the world football) congress meeting in Paraguay.

The European football governing body feels that Infantino has his political interests, which he has placed ahead of FIFA’s May 2025 event.

Infantino has been seen with United States leader Donald Trump during his Middle East trip.

He came two hours and 17 minutes later than the fixed time of 10:30 (14:30 BST) in Paraguay.

UEFA said: “To have the timetable changed at the last minute for what appears to be simply to accommodate private political interests, does the game no service and appears to put its interests second.”

In the last two to three months, Infantino has been stopped many times alongside Trump. Two major events are happening in the US – FIFA 2025 Club World Cup and the 2026 World Cup (North America).

The 2034 World Cup will be staged in Saudi Arabia. This might be a reason for having a diplomatic trip to Saudi Arabia. However, it is something that UFEA has not appreciated.

More so than several ex-FIFA presidents, Infantino has been accused many times of being around world leaders for unnecessary reasons.

In the 2018 WC finals, when Russia had the hosting rights, he made more than ample visits before and after. The same could be said when Qatar hosted the mega tournament in 2022.

Even the football world has questioned FIFA’s take on giving Saudi Arabia the rights to stage the World Cup in 2034.
