Varun Chakravarthy was the biggest asset of India at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, where India beat New Zealand by four wickets in the final game in Dubai last Sunday.

Chakravarthy performed very well in the group stage and knockout matches to lead India to win their first ICC ODI title under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.

However, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium back in 2021, Pakistan beat India in a T20 World Cup match where Chakravarthy was smashed hard.

After India lost the game, he said there were death threats received. Even some called him to not come back to India.

“The 2021 World Cup was a dark time for me. I even went into depression then. I came into the team with so much hype, and I did not even get one wicket. After that, I was not even considered for selection for three years,” he said on a YouTube channel.

However, in 2025, Chakravarthy did work on his spin bowling and made India win the mega ICC title.

In three matches played, he took nine wickets for India. Even his impact last season helped the Kolkata Knight Riders win the Indian Premier League title.
