Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid backs captain Sanju Samson in a recently given interview to SportStar.
Dravid took over as RR captain in 2025 after leading India to win the T20 World Cup last summer. Samson, who missed the first three games due to an injury, is finding it a bit hard to make Rajasthan win games with consistency.
Samson’s RR lost to the Gujarat Titans by 58 runs on Wednesday. This was the 2008 IPL champions’ third defeat of the season, having two just two games yet.
But Dravid feels that Samson has all the tools to make RR win the title in 2025.
He told to SportStar: “Sanju has grown significantly as both a cricketer and a captain. Captaincy is a skill where the more you do it, the better you become. It’s about gaining experience and learning from different situations.”
He added: “What stands out about Sanju is his curiosity and willingness to learn. He is always asking questions, eager to improve, and has really embraced his leadership role. There is great clarity in how he communicates with the group. He knows exactly what he wants from the team and what he aims to achieve.”
After five games, the Rajasthan Royals are seventh in the IPL table, with four points in five matches. They will face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru next at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, RCB are hours away from facing the unbeaten Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium.
