The Mumbai Indians have registered a crucial 20-run victory over the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League on Friday.
As a result, the five-time IPL winners will face the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mohali, MI won the toss and were picked to bat first.
Rohit Sharma scored 81 off 50 runs in a do-or-die match and set a megabase. England’s Jonny Bairstow also showed his class, with 47 off 22 balls.
Suryakumar Yadav’s 33, Tilak Varma’s 25 and captain Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 22 runs played an ample role in making MI put a total of 228 runs at the cost of five wickets in 20 overs.
For GT, captain Shubman Gill scoring just one run put massive pressure on the team. But his opening partner, Sai Sudharsan’s 80 runs off 49 deliveries, put a decent base. Even Washington Sundar’s 48 runs in 20 balls created a decent base.
Losing wickets in key moments made GT add just 208/6 in 20 overs and lose the match by 20 runs.
The clash between PBKS and MI will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (1 June).
