Shubman Gill gets the responsibility of leading India in Tests for the upcoming England tour. The retirement of Rohit Sharma from Tests early this month made the captaincy position open.
Back then, many cricket experts were saying that former Test captain Virat Kohli should get the responsibility back. But days after Rohit’s retirement from the red ball format, Kohli also said goodbye to Test cricket.
It must be the key reason behind naming Gill the new Test skipper. Not to forget that Gill was vice-captain in March 2025 when Rohit Sharma led India to win the ICC Champions Trophy.
He holds the experience of playing 32 Tests, scoring 1,893 runs. The five-match Test series between England and India starts on June 20. Rishabh Pant gets the job of vice-captain.
