Veteran India cricketer Ajinkya Rahane becomes the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On Monday, KKR confirm the update of Rahane leading the side in the 2025 Indian Premier League.

Last season, Shreyas Iyer led KKR to win the IPL title. However, differences with the team led Iyer to join Punjab Kings in 2025.

Rahane, with the past two seasons at Chennai Super Kings, did show his class. In 2023, he scored 326 runs in 14 matches.

But last season was a mixed one, where Rahane added 242 runs in 13 games. Rahane has experience with leading Rajasthan Royals as captain previously.

It is a return of Rahane to Kolkata as in 2022, he was not able to shine and scored just 133 runs in seven matches. It was one of the worst seasons of Rahane in the IPL.

However, he then made a great comeback with CSK and is now set to lead KKR in the 2025 IPL.

KKR are the defending champions. They are opening the 2025 IPL season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens on 22nd March.
