The Rajasthan Royals and the Chennai Super Kings are long out of the playoffs race. Despite acknowledging this, both teams fought hard in a decently balanced battle at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday (21 May, 2025).
RR, after winning the toss, picked to bowl first, beat CSK by six wickets in 17.1 overs. Ayush Mhatre (43 runs), Dewald Brevis (42) and Shivam Dube (39) played decent knocks and helped the home side score 187/8 in 20 overs.
As Chennai kept losing wickets, they were not able to cross the 200-run hurdle. Akash Madhwal and Yudhvir Singh took three wickets for the away side, making a sound impact.
RR lost just four wickets while chasing the total of 188, with young Vaibhav Suryavanshi leading with 57 off 33 balls.
The young batsman got the support of captain Sanju Samson, scoring 41 runs, and Yashasvi Jaiswal adding 36 runs.
CSK have joined RR on the list of losing 10 matches in the IPL 2025. But CSK have played 13 matches to RR’s 14.
Only in the 2022 IPL, Chennai lost 10 matches before the playoffs. This time, they might have a chance to face a record 11 defeats.
As the final game of the season for CSK is against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday, there are chances of finishing the season with 11 losses.
The victory has not changed much for RR, as they are ninth with only CSK beneath them in the 10th spot.
