The Delhi Capitals are out of the playoffs race after losing a do-or-die clash against the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier Legaue on Wednesday.
The five-time IPL winners defeated Delhi by 59 runs on May 21, 2025.
At the Wankhede Stadium, Delhi won the toss and decided to bowl first. In a crucial clash, Suryakumar Yadav remained not out and blasted 73 off 43 balls.
He was backed by Naman Dhir’s 24 runs in just eight balls. Naman’s fast knock came as a booster for Mumbai after Tilak Varma took 27 balls to contribute 27 runs.
On a challenging surface, MI gave DC a target of 181 runs as they put 180/5 on board. For the home side, Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each and broke the backbone of Delhi.
DC were able to add 121/10 in 18.1 overs and got out of the competition.
But the Mumbai Indians have qualified for the next stage. They have joined the Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings on the list of qualified teams for the playoffs.
MI’s next clash is against the Punjab Kings on Monday. With just one game left in the regular season, MI hold the chance to finish inside the first two spots, which gives an advantage.
DC missed Axar Patel (captain) in this crucial game for real, as they started the 2025 season well. But in the second half, the overall impact was not that sound. In his absence, Faf du Plessis captained Delhi.
