Axar Patel’s impact as the captain of the Delhi Capitals seems to be working in the right direction. The DC beat the Rajasthan Royals in a thrilling Super Over contest.
Sanju Samson’s Pink Army won the toss and chose to field first. In-form Karun Nair’s run out (scoring 0) did not impact the home team much, as they managed to score 188/5 in 20 overs.
Opener Abishek Porel played another good knock, taking 37 runs to add 49 runs. However, Porel’s opening partner, Jake Fraser-McGurk, flopped again and went back to the dugout after scoring nine runs.
Experienced players K.L. Rahul, Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel added 30-plus runs and made sure that the home side were able to add 188 runs.
Nitish Rana and Yashasvi Jaiswal were able to score 51 each. Even Sanju Samson’s 31 (runs) did put them in a comfortable position.
But their other batting partners did exhaust so many balls and scored not much to add 188 runs too.
As a result, the game went to the Super Over.
What happened in the Super Over?
Power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer scored just six runs in four balls. Ryan Parag, Hetmyer’s batting partner, took two balls to score four runs.
This gave the DC a 12-run target to chase as Mitchell Starc gave one extra run.
Rahul took just three balls to score seven runs. Tristan Stubbs made things even better as he blasted a six in the first ball he faced and made DC win the game in four balls.
Meanwhile, DC now stand at the top of the IPL table with 10 points in six matches. RR, are eighth, have collected just four points after seven games (losing five).
