The Gujarat Titans, who are leading the Indian Premier League 2025 table with 16 points in 11 games, will miss Jos Buttler as the former England limited-overs cricket captain has decided to leave before the playoffs due to national duty.
Before the temporary suspension of the IPL 2025 last week, the final was scheduled on May 25. However, a little delay has made the BCCI push the final to June 3.
This has impacted the overall schedule for overseas cricketers, who have bilateral series due after May 25. Buttler, being a crucial player for GT, will be replaced by Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis. It will be Mendis’ IPL debut.
The England wicketkeeper-batsman is one of the top reasons behind Gujarat’s success in the IPL 2025, scoring 500 runs in 11 matches with an average of 71.43.
Buttler made his IPL debut in 2016, but he has never given a team an average of 71.43. His previous best was in the 2022 IPL season, where the 34-year-old scored 863 runs in 17 matches and had a 57.53 average.
England have a one-off Test series from 22 to 25 May, facing Zimbabwe at home.
Meanwhile, GT’s next IPL game is against the Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium on 18 May (Sunday).
